The highly representative Villa Hohenfels was built in 1890. Factory and property owner Karoline Tobisch had a two-story, palace-like villa constructed on the grounds of the former entertainment venue „Neue Welt.“ The designs were created by Karl Scheffler.

In 1894, Alfred Freiherr von Berger became the owner of the villa, and his wife Stella von Hohenfels-Berger gave the villa its name. The facades were designed in a historic style, mainly incorporating elements of the Italian Renaissance and Baroque details in the central part of the north side.

In 1920, the villa came into the possession of Sigmund Sachsel, who sold it later that same year to the industrialist Bernhard Altmann. In 1921, Altmann had a main entrance with a staircase to the mezzanine level constructed on the west side. In 1924, he expanded the villa on the south side, as Karl Scheffler’s original design had taken little account of sunlight and natural light.

The Altmann family was dispossessed by the Nazis in 1938. In 1947, ownership was returned to Nelly Altmann. Subsequently, she had three separate apartments installed in the villa. Later, the building housed a construction company.

In 1989, the villa underwent extensive renovations. The historic structure was well-preserved, a residential unit was added to the attic, and dormer windows were installed in the roof area.
